Joan SchwARTz

Art has been a major component of my life for as long as I can remember.  But it is my journey into mosaics during the last 12 years that has become my full time passion. Early on, I began incorporating handmade pieces into my work, including varying kinds of glass, ceramics, beads, wood, metal and any other materials that called me. I love to build my own substrates when possible, and I try to think outside the box.

Each wall relief and 3-D piece consists of attention to detail in the design elements, color choices and selection of materials.  These works may include added touches from my many years of collecting random items, my goal being to develop my own unique, recognizable style.

I try to grow as an artist by taking as many workshops as possible and have sought out training from top mosaic artists in the US and abroad. My desire to search for more found objects and to exchange ideas with fellow artists only adds fuel to my never-ending craving to learn, improve and create.

I am an active member of both SAMA (Society of American Mosaic Artists) and of MAM (Mosaic Artists of Michigan), plus several other art organizations.

My works can be found in many private collections and are permanently displayed at The Huntington Woods Library, Beaumont Hospital, Henry Ford Hospital as well as various others locations in and around Michigan, the United States and overseas.

Whether I am interpreting a client’s vision or creating my own personal concepts, my enthusiasm for mosaic art and pride in workmanship is evident in every finished piece.
